Day 2

Christina woke up super early to learn how to cook breakfast from our chef, Alva. After breakfast, Tom led us in a morning devotional on the parable of the two builders from Matthew 7:24-29. We focused on the first part of the parable which begins with "Anyone who hears and obeys these teachings of mine is like a wise person who built a house on solid rock." Jesus tells this parable after giving his Sermon on the Mount. Jesus used this parable to illustrate that knowing and doing what was right was insufficient, but rather our actions need to display Christ living through us. The Law of Moses was given to the Jews to identify them as God's chosen people. In the same way, our acts should display Christ living through us.

Today, DJ and I started working on the roof. We patched up a few holes in the roof and started painting the roof with an oil based red paint until it started raining around noon. The rest of the team finished painting the restroom area and started painting the girl's rooms. We finished around 3:30PM and spent time with the kids coloring and drawing for an hour before returning to Portantorchas. When we got back Drew led the team in an Insanity video exercise. We ended the evening playing Uno, Sequence, and dominos. The guys were running out of work clothes so they did a load of laundry before bed. Here is a video we uploaded of DJ and I on the roof:
