Final Preparations

Drew: I hate packing. I'm pretty bad at it, actually. I generally pack the way I buy groceries... impulsively. I write a list and everything, but there is so much improvisation and "oh, AAA batteries! I need that. I don't know when... but I will need it" moments, it makes my packed-to-the-gills duffel bag an amalgamation of ridiculousness.

So consider this a procrastination technique... I'm tired of trying to figure out how to make this work. To be honest, I am excited to be going on this trip, but for slightly different reasons than you might think. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but I am excited to get on that plane and live two weeks in a foreign country, away from everything familiar, so that I can rest. Don't get me wrong; I expect to be doing a lot of work, and I am sure that there will be challenges that will really push me, but there is something to be said about being removed from the various distractions, errands, long-term goals and short-term responsibilities that our lives often are... and being placed in an environment where there is only one focus: abiding in the Lord. And I can't think of a better way to be forced to rest in the Lord than a place where the only familiar thing is the Lord.

As we travel to Costa Rica tomorrow, please pray for our physical safety, security and rest... that we would arrive safely, that our stuff would be secure (not lost or stolen), and that we would be able to find rest on our red-eye flight.

Thanks for reading. Back to packing... I need a small sewing kit, right?
