I can't believe we will be leaving for Costa Rica in two weeks. Time has flown by so fast. We will be posting prayer requests on this blog for those of you who have committed to praying for us. We need your prayers to cover us while we are in Costa Rica and even during the preparations for our trip. We know that Satan will be looking for opportunities to discourage our work and break this team apart. Here are some of our team's prayer requests:
Team Unity and Harmony
Pray that we will accept, respect, and love one another. Pray also that we will be patient with one another. We will stand out in Costa Rica and how we interact with each other will be witnessed by everyone (we will be under a microscope). Pray that we will love each other at all times and be examples of God's unconditional and perfect LOVE.
Humble Hearts
Pray that we will be flexible and willing to do whatever is asked of us. Pray that we will remember our goal and mission...to serve, encourage, and support the local missionaries, churches, and people of Costa Rica. Pray that the LORD will give us opportunities to build relationships and share our testimony with locals. Pray that the language barrier will not hinder us from pursing these opportunities as well.
Cultural Sensitivity
Pray that we will be mindful and sensitive to the Costa Rican culture and respect their ways and customs.
Spiritual and Physical Protection
Pray that we will be a team in constant prayer and that each of us will feed from his Word on a daily basis. Pray for the physical health and safety of our team as we adjust to a new environment/surroundings. Pray that no one gets sick.
Fears and Expectations
Pray that we will remember that our identity is found in Christ and there is no reason to fear anything. Pray that our expectations will not hinder us from doing God's work.
Our team will be having a commissioning service at PCC this upcoming Sunday, June 27, 2010. Additionally, we would love to see our supporters before we leave for Costa Rica. We will be having a Hawaiian team dinner at Lahaina (http://www.backhomeinlahaina.com) at 8:30PM on Saturday night (July 3, 2010) and everyone is welcome to join us. If you can't make dinner and would like to meet us at the airport, we will be flying out of LAX (Continental Airlines) at 1:30AM on Sunday morning (July 4, 2010). We will probably arrive at the airport around 10:30PM.

Welcome
From July 4-17, 2010, Pacific Crossroads Church (PCC) will be sending a team of six men and women to San Jose, Costa Rica to partner with Tom and Sara Marcus, local missionaries from Huntington Beach, CA. The Marcus family moved to Costa Rica nearly 8 years ago when Tom was offered the school administrator position at Portantorchas (which translates to "Torchbearers" in Spanish). Portantorchas is part of the Capernway Torchbearer International (http://www.torchbearers.org/) ministries, which has 26 centers located on 20 countries. Each center takes students on a two year study on the person and work of Jesus Christ. The unique part of these courses is that they are taught in the native language of the country hosting the center.
For the first week of our trip we will be working at a local orphanage...painting the inside and outside of the orphanage as well as teaching VBS and English to the kids at the orphanage. During the second week of our trip, we will be fixing and cleaning the house of a local disabled woman in the community. Additionally, we will be working at local drug rehabilitation centers and homeless shelters.
We are excited about this opportunity to serve the people of Costa Rica and see how God is moving throughout the country and its people. We want to thank each of you for your support and we ask that you continue to cover us with your prayers during our time in Costa Rica. We created this blog to allow each of you to see and experience everything we are going through in Costa Rica. You are an extension of our team and we want to take each of you along with us on our trip. Additionally, we will be posting information about our trip and updating prayer requests through this blog. We will try to update this blog as frequently as possible.
